Approximately 84 years of age.

Company E, 24th Infantry, USCT

George lived and worked on Snethea Farm near Cecilton in the early 1860's. George and wife, Priscilla Price Douglass had a son, Irwin, after 1870 and seven more children by 1900.

He enlisted in the Union Army in Philadelphia on February 23, 1865. His service is mentioned in "A History of the Pennsylvania Volunteers, 1861 - 1865" by Samuel Bates.

His grave was unmarked until 1940 when son, Linwood, requested a government issued Civil War marker. The marker was made in Vermont and shipped to the Middletown, Delaware rail station where Linwood retrieved it and placed in on his father's grave.

His mother was Susan Douglass and was living with George's family until her death between 1910 - 1920. Descendents of his in-laws, the Price family, are still in the area.
