Philippine Insurrection Congressional Medal of Honor Recipient. He served as a Surgeon in the United States Army in the 36th Infantry, U.S. Volunteers. He was awarded the Medal of Honor for action on October 29, 1899 near Labo, Luzon, Philippine Islands. His citation reads "While in attendance upon the wounded and under a severe fire from the enemy, seized a carbine and beat off an attack upon wounded officers and men under his charge."
