Reverend David Rice McMillin first married Phebe Margaret Harlan on May 31, 1836 in Peoria, Illinois. Together, they had (at least) five children: Lewis, Sarah, Margaret Ann, Mary Jane, and Phebe Maria. His wife Phebe died sometime before April 10, 1850, when he became the second husband of Amelia Mary (Swarts) Creel. Amelia had (at least) five children with her first husband that she brought into her marriage with David: Elizabeth Ann, Mary Elizabeth, Malinda Jane, Martha Ellen, and James C H. David and Amelia together had (at least) five children: Laura Stella, Eliza Adaline, William Carroll Welch, Thomas H, and Samuel Davis. David and Amelia set off for the west coast with at least some of their 15 children in tow. They arrived in Oregon in the 1850s, and eventually ended up as pioneers in the historic White River area in Kent, Washington.
