Elias Sanders, age 75, of Merced, Calif., died Tuesday, June 17, 1947, in a hospital in Merced. He was born in Marshall, March 5, 1872. Surviving are two brothers, Jasper Sanders of Merced and B.H. Sanders of Marshall, and a daughter, Mrs. Margaret Griffin. He professed religion at the age of 19 years and joined the Missionary Baptist Church. He went to Oklahoma in 1893. He attended school in the old Marshall Academy, and had many schoolmate friends, among them being E.S. Ramsey of Marshall and the writer. Elias Sanders was firmly fixed in his christianity. He never swerved from the path of christian duty. He was faithful to his friends, faithful to his trust, faithful to his family, and faithful to his God. He always nursed a love for his native land, although he left it behind him, due to marital relations. As he stepped off the stage of physical action, he stepped aboard the salvation train on its way to glory, and that is a great consolation to his relatives and friends. In all my acquaintances, I never knew a man with more praiseworthy virtures than Elias Sanders. Always ministering to the needy and helpless, never singing his own praises. He was extremely quiet and gentle in his benevolence and kindness to his fellowman. He carried with him through life the Sanders family trait of hospitality. In my opinion, this good man will awake from his long sleep with a conscious realization that death had been defeated, and then, how appropriate the following (missing) O! death, where is thy sting, (missing) grave, where is thy victory? Cor. 15:55. A light has stopped shining on earth, but a new halo is radiating in Heaven. Elias Sanders has given his feeble body to earth for a time, but his soul, over which death has no control, is in the everlasting hands and care of the One who gave it. Let this be said for all of us. A Friend, Dan W. McInturff, Marshall, Ark.
