CENTRAL KENTUCKY NEWS JOURNAL OBITUARY – 06/17/1965
Mr. Jessie O. Shofner, 74, a retired farmer of the Maple community in Taylor County, son of the late Mr. Tom Shofner & Mrs. Harriet Shofner, died at the Rosary Hospital at 2:05 p.m., Monday, June 14th,  after a long illness. Since early in life he has been a member of the Zion Separate Baptist Church. He was also a member of the Mystic Tie Masonic Lodge #450 F&AM at Saloma. He united in marriage to Miss Henry Katie DeSpain some 57 years ago. She preceded him in death December 19, 1943. To this union 3 sons were born. Surviving are Garnett Shofner of Campbellsville and Owen Shofner of Springfield, IL. In June 1944, he was married to Mrs. Hallie Spratt. She preceded him in death October 10, 1951. He then united in marriage to Mrs. Rhoda Hunt Bennett in 1953. Besides his wife and sons, he is also survived by 9 stepdaughters and 1 stepson: Mrs. Ivan Quinn, Mrs. Joe Knopp, Mrs. Veachel Wright, and Mrs. Andy Bell, all of Campbellsville; Mrs. Bill Moore of Greensburg; Mrs. Sudie Ratcliffe and Mrs. Hardin Morris, both of Campbellsville, Star Route; Mrs. Arthur Sidebottom and Mrs. John L. Gilpin, both of Louisville; and Dr. T.D. Carlisle of Louisville; 1 grandchild; 1 great-grandchild; and 2 brothers and 1 sister: Mrs. Johnnie Shofner and Mr. Walter Shofner, both of Campbellsville, Star Route and Mrs. Rosie Underwood of Campbellsville, Star Route. Funeral services were at 2 p.m. Wednesday, June 16th, in the Zion Separate Baptist Church by Rev. F.T. Pepper, Rev. J.H. Bloyd, and Rev. Vess Johnson with burial in the church cemetery with Masonic Rites. Pallbearers were Masons.
