Michael Raymond Griffin, age 52, of Oklahoma City, formerly of Mangum, passed away early Thursday morning, December 8, 2011, at OU Medical Center, in Oklahoma City.
Mr. Griffin was born in Mangum on March 9, 1959, to James Griffin and Nettie (Warren) Griffin. As a small child, the family moved to California where Michael attended school. In the mid 1980's the family moved back to Mangum and Michael began working in the oil fields and later worked at Republic Gypsum, in Duke. In 1986, he married Becky Atkinson and she preceded him in death in 2004. For several years Michael worked at Mustang Public School, in the maintenance department. In 2003, he was forced to retired due to his declining health. In his spare time, Michael enjoyed riding his Harley Davidson motorcycle, shooting pool, riding jet skis and being with his family and friends.
Preceded in death by his wife, he is survived by his daughter, Micah McClendon and husband Travis of Lewisville, Texas; one granddaughter, Avery McClendon; his mother, Nettie Griffin of Mangum; his father, James Griffin of California; one brother, James Gentry Griffin and wife Susan of Tulsa along with many other relatives and friends.
Funeral services for Michael Griffin will be at 2 p.m., Saturday, December 10, 2011, at the Rose Assembly Church with Pastor Gary Usher officiating. Interment will follow at Riverside Cemetery under the direction of Greer Funeral Home of Mangum.
