Gen George Aldrich was born March 13,1738. He married Azubah Howe(1741-1815) on Sept 30,1762.
GEORGE ALDRICH, son of Benjamin Aldrich and Mary Shaw, born in Walpole, MA, March 13, 1738, married, Azuba Howe daughter of Joshua Howe (1716-?) and Lydia Robbins (1715-1806) of Westmoreland on Sept 30,1762. They had seven children. He was a man of distinction in military and civil affairs, and was prominent in masonry. He was known as "General George" When George was about five years old his parents moved and settled in Westmoreland ,New Hampshire.When George was a young man he was a brave and efficient soldier;he served in the old French War under General Abercrombie at the disastrous encounter at Ticonderoga and was generally on duty during that war.He also took an active part in the Revolutionary war,was an Ensign at the battle of "Bunker Hill".In 1776 he entered the ranging service,was Lieut and Capt in the renowned company of rangers commanded by Major Benjamin Whitcomb.During the four years he continued with this company he was in many engagement and did valuable service;h was at the battle of Bennington and is said to have capture three Hessians on that day and led them to headquarters.He was a large powerful man of commanding appearance.After the Revolution he was appointed Brigadier General of militia;in 1805 he was Presidential Elector,and a State Senator from 1807 to 1810.He died July 17 1815.He was a member of the Masonic fraternity,and was buried with a Masonic ceremony.
