He was also a POW in Libby Prison, Richmond, VA, Salisbury Prison, Salisbury, NC & Belle Isle Prison, Richmond, VA.

He served as a captain in the Fenian Brotherhood, Buffalo, NY & participated on raids into Canada for the freedom of Ireland. The roots of the IRA can be traced to the Fenians.
