Indian Campaigns Congressional Medal of Honor Recipient. He served as a Sergeant in the United States Army in Battery E, 1st U.S. Artillery. He was awarded the Medal of Honor for action on December 29, 1890 at Wounded Knee Creek, South Dakota. His citation reads "Taking the place of his commanding officer, who had fallen severely wounded, he gallantly served his piece, after each fire advancing it to a better position."
