First Lieutenant Swiatnicki served as a
Navigator with the 652nd Bomb Squadron
(Weather), 25th Bomb Group (Weather),
during World War II.

He was one of five airmen killed aboard B-17G
Flying Fortress #42-31736, when his aircraft
crashed on takeoff from USAAF Station 376
Watton, Norfolk, England, departing on a
weather reconnaissance mission.

The other airmen killed were:

1st Lt. Clarence R Stephenson, Pilot
2nd Lt. Joseph Ward, Co-Pilot
SSgt. Leonard L Licursi, Ball Turret Gunner
TSgt. Earl H Westerholm, Engineer-Top Turret Gunner.

Three crew members survived the crash.

Swiatnicki, age 21, late residence, 1725 W. 17th street, 25th Bombing Squadron, 8th Air Force, killed in action in Norfolk, England, September 6, 1944, son of Anthony and Otilia Swiatnicki, brother of Roman, Phyllis, Lorraine and Sally. Funeral Saturday, July 17, at 10:30 a.m., funeral from chapel, 1810 W. 18th street, to St. Anne's church. Interment Resurrection cemetery. Military honors by Woodrow Wilson post, No. 3, American Legion.
