Gregory Dean "Greg" Hemphill died suddenly in his home on his 53rd birthday, December 14, 2011.
Born in Lake Charles, Louisiana, to Fred Beckett and Rebecca Copher Hemphill, Greg was raised in Sulphur. He was a 1976 graduate of Sulphur High School and received his Bachelor of Science degree in Psychology with a minor in English from McNeese State University. He was Senior Buyer for W. R. Grace Company from 1988 until 2002, and worked in outside sales for the past ten years for various companies, including Airgas, Inc., RSC Equipment Rental and most recently for Port Aggregates, Inc. He enjoyed photography, particularly aerial photography.
Greg's greatest joy was his family and making them happy. He was a gentle and talented man with a generous spirit. He was always willing to help a friend or neighbor in need. He will be sorely missed by the family that loved him and by neighbors and friends who thought so much of him.
Those left to cherish his memory are his wife, Kelley Hunter Hemphill of Lake Charles; daughters, Kelli and Katelyn Hemphill of Sulphur; step daughters, Ashley Bowler and Lauren Gregg and husband Brandon of Lake Charles; mother, Rebecca Hemphill, also of Sulphur; brothers, Alan Hemphill and wife Pam of Houston, and Bruce Hemphill of North Carolina; and one grandson, Colton Gregg. He was preceded in death by his father, Fred B. Hemphill.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, December 17, 2011 at Johnson Funeral Home. Dr. Mike Dickson will officiate. Interment will be at Highland Memory Gardens. Visitation will be from 5 until 7 p.m. on Friday and on Saturday from 9 a.m. until service time.
