Winifred Holder Croghan

1918 - 2011

Winnie was born in Manson, WA, August 28, 1918, to Frank and Lillian (Holden) Holder. Winnie grew up in Manson, where she met and married Clarence Croghan. They were married September 14, 1935. Their son, James, was born in January 1937 and their daughter, Jo Ann, was born in March of 1939. The family moved to WEnatchee in 1945. Winnie was mainly a housewife, but did work for some time as an aid when Parkside Manor was opened. She also did baby sitting in their home. What she really loved was her flower and vegetable garden. She had people stop in their car to comment on her yard. She was a member of the Bethel Baptist Church.

She was preceded in death by her parents; a younger brother; her husband of 54 years; and one grandson. She is survived by one brother, James Holder of California; one son, James Croghan of East Wenatchee; and one daughter, Jo Ann Gilbert of Wenatchee. She had five grand children, ten great-grand children, 11 great-great-grand children, one great-great-great grand child and many nieces and nephews.

She will be missed by many friends and staff, who were like her family at Blossom Creek Memory Care.

Winifred "Winnie" Croghan, 93, of Wenatchee, died Saturday, Dec. 10, 2011.

She was a lifelong resident of Chelan County. She had been a nurse's aid at Parkside Nursing Home and provided child care in her home.

Survivors include her children, James Croghan of East Wenatchee and Jo Gilbert of Wenatchee; and her brother, James L. Holder of Vallejo, Calif.

Graveside services will be held at 2 p.m. Friday at Evergreen Memorial Park in East Wenatchee.
