Funeral services for Larry Wayne Vann, 63, of Pollok will be held Friday, December 16, 2011 at 2:30 p.m. in the Carroway Funeral Home Chapel with Reverend Karl Smith, Reverend R.G. "Bud" Davis and Reverend Joshua Reneau officiating. Interment will follow in the Gann Cemetery.

Larry was born June 28, 1948, in Jacksonville, Texas, to the late Thomas and Mattie (Kellum) Vann and passed from this life Saturday, December 11, 2011 at 2:47 p.m. in M.D. Anderson Hospital, Houston.

Upon graduation from Central High School, Larry began his career as a pattern maker at Lufkin Industries and later became a foundry supervisor. He retired after 42 years of service.

Larry was an avid hunter and outdoorsman. He loved to travel, camp and canoe the Buffalo National River in Arkansas. He enjoyed working his property and teaching his grandchildren to live off the land. The thing he valued most was spending time with his family. Larry was of the Pentecostal faith and attended First United Pentecostal Church of Lufkin.

Survivors include his best friend and wife of 45 years, Beverley Gay (Pitts) Vann of Pollok; daughter and son-in-law, Lori Gayle and Joe Spangler of Pollok; son and daughter-in-law, Air Force Major Lance Allen and Kimberly (Dansby) Vann of Incirlik Air Base, Turkey; grandsons, Mason Kyle Spangler of Pollok, Spencer Pierce, Palmer Dansby, and Connor Allen Vann, all of Incirlik Air Base, Turkey; granddaughter, Kellen Jayde Spangler of Pollok; brothers and sisters-in-law, Kenneth and Joyce Vann of Bald Hill, Billy and Pat Vann of Pollok, Jimmy and Darla Vann of Lufkin, and Steve and Lesa Vann of Pollok; very special sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Crystal (Pitts) and Sidney Gholson of Murfreesboro, Tennessee; and numerous nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister, Sandra (Vann) Tatum; beloved mother-in-law and father-in-law, Lucille (Allen) and J.D. Pitts; and sister-in-law, Naomi (Acosta) Vann.

Pallbearers will be Arkansas "Ark" Cranford, Chris Murray, Tommy Sanders, Matt Sanders, Jeff Sanders, Rodney Vann, Stacey Vann, and Tracey Vann.

Honorary pallbearers will be the Central High School Varsity Boys' Cross Country/Track Team: Mason Spangler, Blake Murray, Scotty Sprinkle, Austin Adkins, Jonathan Cerillo, Max Iguess, Wesley Metts, and Coach Ray Stanfield.

The family would like to thank the following for the excellent care provided to Larry: Dr. Carlton Lewis and staff, Dr. Munir Ahmad and staff, the staff of the M.D. Anderson Blood Center, and the leukemia Specialty Team at M.D. Anderson, Houston.
