Earl married Hannah Grover in Disco, Macomb County, Michigan, on April 24, 1875.

Earl served in the 1st Michigan Cavalry during the Civil War. There is a military marker on his grave.

Obituary:

Earl E. Sweet died Saturday, August 28 [1926], at the residence of his daughter, Mrs. John Robbins, 337 Gibbs Street. He was born at Disco, Macomb County, October 5, 1846, and came to Tuscola County 50 years ago. He was united in marriage about 51 years ago to Hannah Grover, who died just two months ago. They were parents of six children who are Mrs. Solon Ballard of Pontiac, Jay Sweet of Nebraska, Mrs. Ben Stewart of Oakley, Mrs. Robbins of Caro, Mrs. Charles Law of Wisconsin, and Mrs. Arzy Webb of Vassar. Mr. Sweet was a veteran of the Civil War and member of the G.A.R. Death followed a month’s illness. Twenty-nine grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren also survive. Funeral services were held at the residence of the daughter with burial in Wahjamega Cemetery, under the direction of Chester W. Arms, Rev. Mohr officiating.
