George M. Semetkoskey, 83, of West Seneca, NY, formerly of Ernest, died Thursday, November 24, 2011 at the Roswell Park Cancer Center, Buffalo, NY.

A son of the late Frank T. Semetkoskey and Helen Yetsina Semetkoskey, he was born April 27, 1928 in Ernest.

Mr. Semetkoskey lived his early life in Ernest where he graduated from Indiana High School and later worked as an electrician and mechanic for R & P Coal Company and several other coal companies. George moved to Buffalo and made a career change, and worked for General Motors until his retirement. He served in the Air Force during WWII, obtaining the rank of Sergeant. He received the WWII Victory Medal and Army of Occupation Medal-Japan Campaign. George was a member of the Barnesboro VFW Post #343. He belonged to the Fourteen Holy Helpers Catholic Church and was also a member of the Holy Name Society in West Seneca, NY. George was enthusiastic about education, and constantly enrolled in electrical, mechanical, automotive and computerized robotics courses. He was an avid hunter and fisherman and enjoyed gardening, swimming, biking and all outdoor sports activities. He will be missed by his wife, family and many friends.

He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Cecelia Chiodo Semetkoskey; one brother, Frank "Fid" Theodore Semetkoskey, II; four sisters: Helen Mae Yesolivich, Creekside; Mary Jane Tuley and husband Albert, San Antonio, TX; Laura Ann Fisher and husband Raymond, Morriston, FL; Elizabeth Sue Speranza and husband Donald, Indiana; numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces and nephews, and great-great-nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his father, Frank T. Semetkoskey; his mother, Helen Yetsina Semetkoskey-Sabochick; his step-father; his grandparents; a brother-in-law, Joseph Yesolivich; and a great-nephew, Michael Lazor.

Friends will be received from 5 to 7 p.m. Wednesday at Robinson-Lytle, Inc. in Indiana. A funeral mass will be held at 10:00 a.m. Thursday at St. Bernard of Clairvaux Catholic Church with Fr. William J. Kiel as celebrant.

Interment will be in St. Bernard Cemetery.

Military rites will be accorded by Indiana VFW Post #1989

In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting donations be made to the VFW for Veteran's Families in need, in memory of George, 824 Indian Springs Road, Indiana, PA 15701.
