Winnie May Fitzner, age 89, Long time Logan, NM, resident, went home to be with Jesus on Thursday, December 8, 2011, in Tucumcari, NM.
Winnie was born February 16, 1922, in Shamrock, TX, to William Harvey and Gladys Baxter Whitehead. Winnie's life was devoted to her family and the Lord. On February 27, 1942, she was married to Lawrence Fitzner. They had four children. She was an active member of the Logan United Methodist Church and taught Sunday School classes for over 50 years. She loved the Bible and prepared each week for the Sunday's classes. One of her greatest highlights of her life was her trip to the Holy Land to study and walk where Jesus walked. She was an accomplished painter who loved to paint in oils. Her trademark was her special love for everyone.
Surviving Winnie are her four children, Rita Rogers of Sierra Blanca, TX, Linda Cammack and Jay of Nara Visa, NM, Janet Gallegos and Bill of Belen, NM, and Lawrence Fred Fitzner Jr. and Diana of Logan, NM; 8 grandchildren; 15 great grandchildren; 4 brothers, Ervin Whitehead and Ona, Benny Whitehead and Frances, Dale Whitehead and Sarah, and W. H. Whitehead.
She is preceded in death by her husband of 65 years, Lawrence in 2007; her parents; her son-in-law, Lewis Rogers; her sister, Evelyn Griffin; her granddaughter, Jeanne Lin Cammack, and her great grandson, Drew Addison Ciemny.
Graveside services celebrating her life will be Monday morning, December 12, 2011, beginning at 11:00 AM in Logan Cemetery. Officiating will be Rev. Darrell Roberts, who was inspired as a youth in her Sunday School classes and by Rev. Ray Clark who was inspired to the ministry by her adult Sunday School Classes. Because of her special love for her life on the ranch and the people of this area, she requested that everyone be considered honorary pall bearers.
Arrangements have been entrusted to the Dunn Funeral Home of Tucumcari, NM, 575-461-3815.
