U.S. Congressman. Born in Omaha, Nebraska, he graduated from the University of Nebraska, in 1935 and was in the insurance sales agent. A popular local figure, he was on the Omaha Board of Education, (1946-48), a member of Omaha City Council, (1947-48) and served as Mayor of Omaha, (1949-54). In 1957, he was elected as a Republican to the Eighty-fifth Congress and to the next six succeeding Congresses, serving until 1971. An unsuccessful candidate for re-nomination, he retired from public service. He died at age 91 in Omaha, Nebraska. Glenn Cunningham Lake Omaha, Nebraska, was named in his honor in 1977.
