A young man who was a Civil War Veteran by the name of Colby Franklin "Cobe" Dennis won her heart, and they were married on March 1, 1866, in Lamar County, Texas, Confederate States of America. Together Mary and Colby were the parents of eight sons and four daughters (Reuben E, Thomas R, Laura, Lydia Ann, Betty, Ernest Valoney, Liberty Russell, Katherine "Katie", Fred A, Leonard W, Arthur B, and Rollie Larry).
At the time of the passing of her husband, "Cobe", in 1914, Mary was living in Hugo, Oklahoma, and remained there until her passing at the age of 80 in Paris, Lamar County, Texas on Monday, August 21, 1929.

Obituary of Mary Nancy (Coles) Dennis - The Southeast Oklahoman, Hugo, Oklahoma, August, 22, 1929.
Mrs. Mary Dennis, wife of the late C. F. Dennis, died at 7:20 o'clock Wednesday night at Lamar hospital in Paris, Texas where she had been a patient for two weeks. The body was brought to Hugo Thursday morning and taken to the home of her son, R. L. Dennis, and funeral services were held at the First Baptist church at 4 o'clock p.m. Burial was in the Mount Olivet cemetery, by the side of her husband.
Mrs. Dennis, Born March 12, 1849, was one of the early settlers of Lamar county Texas, a daughter of Dr. William Cole who owned the first drug store in Paris and was a practicing physician in Lamar county many years. She lived most of the 80 years of her life at Garretts Bluff, where she had many friends.
For the past 15 years Mrs. Dennis has made her home with her daughter, Mrs. B. D. Jordan at Durant and her son, R. L. Dennis at Hugo, and was taken to Paris for hospital treatment several weeks ago. She had been a faithful member of the Baptist church for 50 years and was active in all good works until her health failed.
Surviving Mrs. Dennis are her sons, R. E. Dennis of Direct, Texas; L. R. Dennis of Tulsa; Fred Dennis of Alexandria, Louisiana; Cobe Dennis of Norman; L. W. Dennis of Tyler, Texas; R. L. Dennis of Hugo; and her daughters, Mrs. C. A. Herring of Reno, Texas; Mrs. Betty Hall of Enid; Mrs. Jordan of Durant. Other surviving relatives include 30 grandchildren, 35 great-grandchildren, her brother James Cole, her sisters, Mrs. Ella Garrett of Fort Smith, Arkansas and Mrs. Carrie Wood of Ennis, Texas.
All her children were at her bedside when the end came and accompanied the body to Hugo for burial.
