Reuben Harrison Hunt was born in Elbert County, GA to Reuben Smith and Nellie McCrary Hunt on February 2, 1862. He worked as a carpenter and builder before moving to Chattanooga in 1882 and in 1886 was practicing as an architect, first in the partnership of Hunt and McDaniel, later as Hunt and Lamm. In 1890 his ad read "church and public buildings [are] a specialty". He gravitated toward larger scale projects. By the 1930s he had formed the R. H. Hunt Company which he operated until his death on May 28, 1937. He was interred on May 29, 1937.
