Came to America in 1743. Lived in Frederick County, Virginia. Served in the Virginia Militia in the 1750's under George Washington. Eventually settled in Washington County, NC which became Greene County, Tennessee. One of the early settlers of this area. The area was at one time called "Earnestville". A bridge near Chuckey still bears the name of "Earnest Bridge". He built two impressive homes which still stand along the Nolichuckey River. He gave the land for the Ebenezer Methodist Church, which was established in 1795.

Henry Earnest, Sr. is the son of Felix Earnest/Ernst (1702-1744) and Elizabeth Weidmann Ernst (1706-1744). Both parents were born in Switzerland and died on a ship in the Atlantic and are buried in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.

Henry and Mary are the parents of Rev. Felix Earnest who married Sarah North and Lawrence Earnest who married Rebecca North.
