Martin A. Platsko, age 90, a retired radiologist, died at his home on December 3, 2011.

Born January 26, 1921 in Siften, Manitoba, Canada, he grew up in Winnipeg, Canada. During World War II, Martin served as a flying boat pilot in the Royal Canadian Air Force. He survived a crash landing and completed his tour of duty in September 1945.

After graduating from the University of Manitoba Medical School in 1953, Martin spent two years in general practice in Edmore, North Dakota and completed his residency training in Detroit, Michigan. In 1959, he joined the medical staff of St. Joseph's Hospital in Stockton, California where he became Chief of the Radiology Department, retiring to Pebble Beach in 1983.

An avid golfer, Martin was a member of Spyglass Hill Golf Club and Monterey Peninsula Country Club. He also enjoyed gardening, music and played the violin and trumpet.

Martin was preceded in death by his wife of 53 years, Lillian, several nieces and nephews in Canada and his dear friends of many years, Dr. and Mrs. R. Millar of Redwood City, California.

At his request, no services will be held. Private inurnment will take place at Monterey City Cemetery. Published in The Monterey Herald on December 9, 2011
