Gladys Berneice (Olsen) Mathias Courtney of Salem died Wednesday following a short illness. She was 90.
A private service will be held.
Mrs. Courtney was born March 19, 1911, in Luck, Wis., to Christian and Maren (Rasmussen) Olsen. She married Alfred Nielsen in 1929.
She then married John Mathias in May 1935 and farmed in Amery, Wis. She worked at the Salem TB Hospital. She then worked at the Hilcrest School for Girls until retiring in 1972. She married Frank Courtney in 1964.
Mrs. Courtney was a member of the Bend Eagles Lodge and attended the Keizer-Salem and Bend Senior centers. She enjoyed knitting, crocheting, playing cards and board games and dancing.
Survivors include her three sons, Myron Mathias of Minneapolis, Joel Mathias of Aumsville and Dennis Mathias of Salem; two daughters, Margaret Harstad of Mesa, Ariz., and Nancy Patterson of Bend; 12 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by two grandsons.
