Margaret was the wife of Charles Ellis, who was a merchant in partnership with John Allan, foster father of Edgar Allan Poe.
Margaret was a cousin of Frances Keeling Valentine Allan, wife of John Allan. She and her family were close to the Allans, and socialized with them often. Margaret was well-acquainted with Poe.
She died at 117 E. Franklin Street of "Bronchitis," per Cemetery records, and is buried in her husband's plot.
