Mrs Sabra Nash (H), widow of the late William D Nash, and sister of Wm. Bickerstaff, this city, died Friday, Jan. 10th, at noon, at her residence on upper Market Street, in the 81st year of her age. Mrs. Nash was born in Washington Co., Pa., Aug 15th, 1798, and was the daughter of Augustine and Elizabeth Bickerstaff, who imigrated to this State, March 1799, when it was a territory, and located in Cross Creek township, this county, not far from where the Union Cemetery now is. At that time there were but three log houses in Steubenville, one being located on the corner of High and Market Streets. Mr Bezaleel Wells, the founder of the city was camped on the river bank, and was engaged in laying out lots for the town. Indians were as common here then as negroes are at the present day. Mrs. Nash was united in marriage to William D. Nash in 1832, to whom she was a faithful wife up to his death in March, 1877. During their forty-five years of wedlock no children were born unto them. Amends were made by raising and educating several children of their relatives who have cause to bless them for their beneficence. She was a consistent member of the Methodist Episcopal Church for the last forty years, and being cognizant that her time on earth was of short duration, she expressed her willingness to obey the will of her Master. She leaves one brother, William Bickerstaff and two sisters, Mrs. Joseph Lowden and Mrs. Mary Johnson and a large number of relatives to mourn her death. (Wm. D Nash died in March 1877).
