"Mrs. Mary Willard Hubbell, our mother, was the fifth child of William and Mary M. Willard, and was born at New Haven, (or Old Guilford) Connecticut, September 15, 1817. The family removed from there to Evans Township, Erie County, New York, when she was about ten years of age and from there to Monroe County, Michigan in the autumn of 1828."

"Mrs. Wm. P. Hubbell. Mrs. Hubbell, widow of the late Wm. P. Hubbel, departed this life at the family home near Temperance, Mich., Feb. 11. 1908. Her maiden name was Mary Willard. She was born at New Haven Conn., Sept. 15, 1817 and came to Monroe with her fathers family in Oct. 1827. Later the family located in Lasalle township where on Feb. 5th, 1834 she was married to Wm. P. Hubbell of Monroe. They commenced housekeeping in Monroe and in the latter part of 1835 moved on to a claim bought from the government in the north-east corner of Bedford township. Upon this farm their large family of children grew to manhood and womanhood. They spent the rest of their lives in Bedford township having removed to the southern part of the township about twenty years ago where Mr. Hubbell died two years later. For many years Mrs. Hubbell has been tenderly cared for in the Hubbell home by her children, her daughter Phoebe being her constant attendant and nurse day and night...She raised a family of ten children, three sons and seven daughters, seven of whom still survive, all but a son living now in Bedford. At the time of her death she had thirty four grandchildren, thirty-nine great grandchildren and two great great grandchildren...In 1862 Mr. and Mrs. Hubbell embraced Christ and united with the Free Baptist church...Of the original Willard family that came from Connecticut in 1827 one sister Mrs. Phoebe Palmerton and one brother N.L. Willard remain as residents of Bedford."
