ANOTHER WORTHY CITIZEN PASSES AWAY

Death has of late taken away many of our older residents, but none has been called who were more worthy or more deeply mourned than P.W. Swanson who died at his home one mile south of Oakland Friday May 5th after a lingering illness extending over many months past. His constitution seemed to have broken down and lung trouble was a strong factor in his death.
Deceased was born in Glimokra, Sweden December 4, 1845 and came to America in 1868, going to Minnesota, where he remained a year. Rock Island was next his home until 1873, when he moved with his family on their present home near this city. He was a carpenter by trade and followed that business until he came here. He was married to Miss Bettie Carlson at Rock Island, March 1, 1872 and 10 children, 8 of whom are living, were born to them and who are left in good circumstances by the long life of industry and economy, coupled with good management by Mr. Swanson. He has been a member of the Lutheran church since coming to Oakland and the funeral services were conducted in the church Sunday, Rev. Swanberg conducting an impressive service on the occasion. The remains were followed to their last resting place by a large concourse of friends.
The independent joins in many friends of the sorrowing family in expressing its sympathy in the hour of their sad loss.
