Margaret McCue Washington, 94, died Saturday, December 5, 2015, at Westminster Canterbury of the Blue Ridge in Charlottesville, Va. She was the widow of the late William Rhinehart Washington, Colonel U.S. Army retired.The daughter of the late Charles Purcell McCue and Mary Ellen Allen of Greenwood, Va., she was born in Greenwood, March 29, 1921.

Margaret was predeceased by two brothers, Charles Purcell McCue Jr. in 1996, and Harry Allen McCue, who died as an infant.

Raised in Greenwood, Margaret graduated from Greenwood High School and attended Madison College. She was a lifetime member of Emmanuel Episcopal Church, Greenwood, Va. Margaret married the love of her life, William "Bill" Washington in 1941, and enjoyed a wonderful 46 year marriage until his death in 1987. Margaret traveled the world with Bill as a supportive army wife and was a devoted caregiver in his final days.

Margaret was very involved in the Greenwood, Va. community, and also served in various capacities at Emmanuel Episcopal Church, including the Alter Guild and as a Vestry Representative. She was also very active in numerous committees at WCBR as well, which included the flower, chapel, and gift shop committees. She was always concerned for the needs of others above her own, and was the last of the "Great letter writers"

.Margaret was an inspiration to her entire family. She epitomized the proper way to navigate through life with her impeccable manners, grace, and dignity. Margaret was a gourmet cook whose food presentations were noteworthy long before it was popular. She was an expert seamstress who was able to sew, knit and crochet everything from Barbie clothes to heavy winter coats.She gave unconditional love and support to all family members and lived her life by being a wonderful role model to everyone. She was a remarkable woman.

Margaret's family wishes to thank her WCBR family who were always professional, dedicated, and kind caregivers through her 16 years in residence. The special attention and devotion she received from the Catered Living Staff on a daily basis was admirable and will never be forgotten.

She is survived by two nephews, Charles Purcell McCue III and his wife, Vicky of Afton, Va., and Latham L. Thigpen III and his wife, Margo of Ashland, Va.; four nieces, Beebe Belmore and her husband, Winston Watt of Warrenton, Va., Margaret S. Thigpen of Petersburg, Va., Mary Lynn Osborne and her husband, John of Vero Beach, Fla., and Suzanne Belmore and her husband, Tom Tomzak of Fredericksburg, Va. She is also survived by numerous great nieces and nephews, and great-great nieces and nephews.

Services and burial will be held at Emmanuel Episcopal Church, 7601 Rockfish Gap Turnpike (US 250), Greenwood, Va., on Wednesday, December 16, 2015, at 10:30 a.m., a reception will immediately follow at the King Family Vineyards in Crozet.Anderson Funeral Home in Crozet is in charge of arrangements.The family suggests that memorials may be made to Emmanuel Church, P.O. Box 38, Greenwood, VA 22943.
