Excerpt from "Newberry County, South Carolina: Historical and Genealogical Annals" by George Leland Summer (1950; reprinted 2005 by Genealogical Publishing Company), page 328, "Other Pioneers" chapter:
CRENSHAW -- Charles Crenshaw was born in Virginia, married Eunice White of that State, and moved to South Carolina, settled on King's Creek. He was a son of William Crenshaw, of Amelia County, Virginia, and wife, Miss Carr. Charles was one of the founders of old Mount Bethel Academy. He had a large family but many of his children died young. He died in 1814, leaving his widow, Eunice, and children: Archibald, Abner, Anderson, Walter, Willis, and Phoebe.... Dr. Abner Crenshaw married Charlotte Elmore, daughter of John A. Elmore, and moved to Alabama. His first wife is buried in Laurens Cemetery, Laurens, S.C.
