D.L. Clinton, Pioneer Citizen, Died Sunday

In the death of D. L. Clinton Sunday there was removed from this citizenship of Temple [Texas] one of its pioneers, and one who in all the years of his residence, had the business confidence and personal esteem of all who knew him. During his residence here and at the time of his death, he was engaged in the retail liquor business, and was one (of the many) in that line who was true as steel to his friends and honest in all of his business dealings. Charity abounded in his heart for all who needed his aid in whatever way it could be extended. Quiet, to the point of reticence, except with his intimate friends, he went his way through life holding steadfastly to the tenets of uprightness and the square deal to all, giving his neighbors full right unquestioned to live their lives according to their own convictions and rules.
Funeral services were held from the family residence at No. 207 South Fourth Street yesterday afternoon at 2 o’clock, Rev. Father P. A. Heckman of St. Mary’s Church officiating. From the residence the body was conveyed to the Katy train from which place departure was made, accompanied by the bereaved widow and their only daughter, for Magnolia, Ark., where interment will occur. The Pallbearers, who accompanied the funeral party as far as Waco, together with Dave Caldwell, the decedent’s business partner, were the following: R.D. Nicholson, Pat Cahill, E. B. Hobbs, Bennett Smith, Otto Fahrenkampf, S. D. Harbert.
Mrs. Clinton and daughter will return here from Magnolia for continuance of residence. Mr. Clinton was in his fifty-fifth year at the time of his demise.
