Benedictus "Ben" Dinkel, 83, died Wednesday, May 18, 2011, at Mission Palms Rehab Center, Mesa, Ariz. He was born May 21, 1928, in Grainfield to Joseph and Amalia Dinkel.
He and his wife, Helen, had a Mobile Service Station, radiator repair shop and a truck delivery service to farmers in the area. They were in business for 40 years in Collyer. He served as a jet mechanic in the U.S. Air Force. In 1989, they retired to Apache Junction, Ariz. They were snow birds, spending time in Colorado and Kansas in the summer and returning to Arizona for the winter.
Survivors include his wife of 61 years, Helen, of the home; four brothers, Joe and wife, Sally, Hill City, Rudy and wife, Joanne, Quinter, Adolph and wife, Armella, Loveland, Colo., and Don and wife, Sherry, Denver; four sisters, Wilma Schumacher, Hutchinson, Mildred Baker and husband, Duane, Topeka, Betty Gagnon and husband, Ray, Denver, and Joan Zerr and husband, Phil, Wichita; and numerous cousins, nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Alvin; and a brother-in-law, Herbert Schumacher.
Services will be at a later date; cremation has taken place. Memorials are suggested to American Legion Post No. 197 in WaKeeney.
