OBITUARY

CANADIAN - Joint services for a Canadian couple, believed to be the victims of a murder-suicide, will be held Tuesday.

The bodies of Charles THOMAS, 65, and his wife Elna THOMAS, 62, were found in the bedroom of their home Saturday.

Graveside services for Mr. and Mrs. THOMAS will be at 1:30 p.m. in Higgins Cemetery with the Rev. Everett Stevens of Colorado Springs, Colorado, officiating. Arrangements are by Stickley-Hill Funeral Home in Canadian.

The couple's daughter found her parents in the bedroom about 8:45 a.m. Saturday.

Reportedly, a note found at the scene indicates Mrs. THOMAS shot her husband once in the head before shooting herself twice.

THOMAS was found lying in a bed. Mrs. THOMAS was found slumped up against the bed with two pistols, a 22-caliber and a 25-caliber, near her.

She suffered two gunshot wounds - one to the chest and one to the right temple, authorities said.

Officials said she apparently had been shot with both weapons. Thomas had been living at a convalescence center in Shattuck, Oklahoma. He walked out of the center about 8 p.m. Friday and arrived at the Canadian residence sometime during the night, officials said.

Mrs. THOMAS was a lifetime farmer and rancher in Lipscomb County.

The couple is survived by a daughter, Mrs. Allene BALLARD of Canadian; five grandchildren; and a great-grandchild.

Mr. THOMAS also is survived by a sister, Mrs. Jenny COMLEY of St. Joseph, Missouri.

Mrs. THOMAS also is survived by two brothers, Frank BUCHER of Canadian and Herman BUCHER of Perryton; and a sister, Mrs. Mary THOMAS of Higgins.
