Officer Frank Dobler Sr., DSN 0505, was a Police Officer for the St. Louis Metropolitan Police Department and received his commission on 07/12/1943. During his career he has served in the 6th District, Traffic Safety Division, and finally the 4th District. While he was assigned to the 4th District he would direct traffic during Christmas holidays at the intersection of Sixth & Lucas. Officer Dobler had done this this for the last 15 years and was a familiar sight at this intersection. Officer Dobler was directing the normal annual holiday traffic at the intersection when he noticed a cab had stopped on a crosswalk to picking up passengers. He told the Taxi Driver to move on over by the curb to pick up his passengers. The irate driver got out of his taxi and assaulted Officer Dobler, pulled Officer Dobler's jacket over his head, and pushed him to the ground. During the struggle, he gained control of Officer Dobler's service revolver and shot him once.. The suspect fled the scene in his taxi. Officer Dobler had served 29 years of faithful and dedicated service to the St. Louis Police Department. Officer Dobler was survived by his wife and two children.
