Azerbaijan President. Aliev served as the President of Azerbaijan from 1993 to 1998, and 1998 to 2003. He also served as Head of the Azerbaijan KGB in 1967, Azerbaijan's Communist Party Leader from 1969 to 1982, and in the Communist Party Politburo from 1976 to 1982. He was a very high ranking official in the Soviet government with ties to likes of Joseph Stalin, Leonid Brezhnev, and Mikhail Gorbachev.
