Dalton O. Smith went to her heavenly home on Thursday Dec. 8, 2011, at the age of 98. She was born to Alton and Dora McLendon in Vivian, La. Mrs. Smith was a Palestine resident for 46 years. She worked in the railroad office before becoming the first "lady" barber in East Texas.
She was preceded in death by her parents and siblings, her husband, Birdette Smith, and two sons, Terrell and Kenneth Smith.
Survivors include her daughter, Donna Hale and husband Lloyd of Bullard; sons, Robert Smith of Tyler, and Ron Smith and wife Cindy of Waco. Mrs. Smith also had eight grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren, and three great-great-grandchildren. She was the strength of her family. She lived her faith and passed on everlasting treasures to all who knew her.
Pallbearers will be Dennis Smith, Cody Smith, Jake Brooks, Cole Wolf, Jarrett Wolf, Tiger Wolf and Josh Henderson.
