John Farmer died of old age at the home of his son, J.R. Farmer, Lake Mills, on August 4, 1902, died of old age. John was born in Miami Co., Ohio in 1816 and grew up there. He was converted at an early age and became a member of the M.E. Church in 1838, but in later years joined the U.B. Church. He married Mary Ann Hooker an 1838. In 1847 he moved to Green Co., WI. While there, three sons enlisted in the Civil War. William was killed in the service. Mr. Farmer drew a pension 16 years for this son. Mrs. Farmer died in 1864 after which he moved to Olmstead Co, MN and in 1866 came to Lake Mills, Iowa. Eight children survive. He had lived the previous 16 years with his son, Riley (JR), in Lake Mills.
