Mr. Mercer was born on May 19, 1916 at Anthonies Mill, Mo. near Bourbon to Francis and Elsie (Paul) Mercer. He was raised in the Sullivan area and honorably served his country with the U.S. Army during W.W. II. Mr. Mercer was a heavy equipment operator for a time and later became Superintendent of Streets for the City of Valley Park. He retired from there after serving 20 years. On February 2, 1956 he was married to Dorothy J. McGraw. She preceded him in death in 1997. Early in life he enjoyed hunting and fishing, but his real pleasure was traveling. Harold was saved and baptized at New Testament Baptist Church where he was a faithful member until ill health caused him to become a resident at the Missouri Veterans Home at St.
James, Mo.
He is survived by one brother and sister-in-law, Paul and Carol Mercer of Sullivan, nieces, other relatives, and friends. Two sisters, Edith and Beatrice Mercer, also preceded him in death.
Funeral services were conducted at 10 a.m. on Thursday, November 1, 2001 from the Chapel of the Eaton Funeral Home, Sullivan, Mo. with Pastor Charles Idleman officiating. Interment was in Oddfellows Memorial Cemetery, Sullivan, Mo.
