Irma Faye Mathes
Irma Faye Mathes, born January 20, 1901, in Denver, Colorado, daughter of Martha and George Peck, passed away, April 23, 1978, in Memphis, Missouri.
Irma moved to Missouri as a young child. She was united in marriage to Harry C. Mathes, on December 24, 1924. To this union nine children were born. She was a loving and devoted mother and a devout Catholic.
Mrs. Mathes is survived by seven children. Four sons, Leonard, and wife, Ilene of Albuquerque, New Mexico; Harry Jr. and wife, Lenore of Ortonville, Minnesota; Monty and wife, Betty, and George Mathes, both of Memphis; three daughters, Martha O'Connor of Chicago, Nora Lee Orton of Memphis and Rosella Hamilton and husband, Wayne of Palos Hills, Illinois. Also surviving are 22 grandchildren; 11 great grandchildren; one sister, Buelah Peck; two sisters-in-law, Violet and Ada Peck and many other relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by two daughters, infant Rosemary and Darlene Leeper; four grandchildren; her parents; four brothers, Virgil, Charlie, Ray, and Forrest and one sister-in-law, Maxine.
Wake services were held at the Payne Chapel, Monday, April 24, 1978, at 8 p.m. Mass was said Tuesday, April 25, 1978, 10:00 a.m. at St. John's Church by the Reverend William Foust. Honorary bearers were grandsons, Jerry Mathes, Jim Leeper, Tom, Steve, and Marty O'Connor. Body bearers were grandsons, John Leeper, Terry, Doug, and Jon Mathes, and Bill and Scott Cook. Funeral arrangements were handled by D. W. Payne & Sons. Interment was in the Memphis Cemetery.
