Otto Donop was born in Mason County in the Piehweville community. While in his boyhood, he was confirmed by Rev. Conrad Pluenneke and became a member of the German Methodist Episcopal Church. At the age of 16 years, his father died and he being the oldest child, assumed the responsibility of caring for the farm and looking after the welfare of the mother, younger brothers, and sisters. He was married to Miss Susannah Meckel on 4 September 1881 and to them were born seven children, one son and one daughter died in infancy. Five children and his wife survive him. Mr. Donop was one of Mason County's most splendid characters, always law abiding and a faithful religious worker. He was active in the church as a steward and trustee of the church. Mr. Donop was a teacher of the Woman's Bible Class in the Sunday School. Services were held at the local Germany Methodist Episcopal Church, preceded by a short service at the family home officiated by Rev. G.W.A. Witt, the local pastor, assisted by Rev. G. Schulze, Rev. John Kleinknecht, Rev. Henry Jordan, Rev. Roy G. Rader, Rev. J.J. Ray.
Survived by his wife; children - Edwin Donop, Charles Donop, Mrs. E.F. Willmann, Mrs. L. F. Jordan, Mrs. H.Y. Neu; 12 grandchildren; three brothers - Willie Donop, August Donop, Alvin Donop; one sister - Mrs. Peter Jordan. His aged mother preceded him in death about two years ago.
