Winifred Lois (Schumacker) Shamp, 89, of Mellott, passed away at the St. Vincent Williamsport Hospital, on Tuesday, December 6, 2011, at 6:28 a.m.

Winifred was born in Danville, IL, on August 14, 1922. She was the daughter of the late Albert Fred and Bertha Elizabeth (Hall) Schumacker. She was a 1941 graduate of Mellott High School. She had formerly lived in Danville, IL and Bridgeton, IN. Winifred lived most of her life in the Mellott and rural Wingate area.

Winifred formerly worked for 23 years at Radio Material Corp. in Attica where she retired in 1986.

She was a member of the Mellott Community Bible Church and a member of the Ladies Auxiliary of the V.F.W. Post #1431 in Crawfordsville.

She enjoyed crocheting, reading, doing puzzles and was an avid Chicago Cubs fan.

On December 10, 1943, Winifred married Chester Devorl Shamp in Crawfordsville, IN. He preceded her in death on January 24, 1994.

Surviving are two daughters, Shirley (William) Chappell, Grand Haven, MI; Donna Brittain, Wingate; a son, Ron (Joyce) Shamp, Veedersburg; six grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her sister, Geraldine Wilhite.

Friends may call at the Maus Funeral Home, Attica, on Friday, Dec. 9th, from 5:00-8:00 p.m. Services will be held at the funeral home on Saturday, Dec. 10th, at 11:00 a.m., Pastor Richard Carty officiating. Burial will follow in the Waynetown Masonic Cemetery, Waynetown, IN. Memorial contributions may be made to the Mellott Community Bible Church or the Band Department of the Fountain Central High School.
