Joanne graduated from the Northwestern School of Nursing in 1962. For 35 years, she worked at Community University Health Care Center as a nurse practitioner and supervisor. During this time, she was the recipient of the University of Minnesota Hospital and Clinic Distinguished Service Award.
Joanne will be remembered for her skill and compassion in her work and for her devotion to her friends and their families.
She is survived by her partner, Joan Lobis, of New York; her sister, Mary Bednar; and other family and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents, John and Anne Bednar.
A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated Tuesday at the Church of St. Olaf, Minneapolis.
Interment will be in Riverside Cemetery, Ironwood.
