Virginia Mae Bradford Stone, 94, rural Buffalo, died Monday, Dec. 5, 2011 at the Heritage Health Care Center in Chanute.

Virginia was born in rural Earlton on Jan. 22, 1917, the daughter of Walter and Marie Wiltse Bradford. She attended Thornburg school east of Earlton.

She was united in marriage to Carl Stone on Feb. 19, 1936 in Independence. In 1949 they moved to a farm in the High Prairie Community of Wilson County. He preceded her in death on August 23, 2004.

She was a homemaker.

Virginia was very active as a member of the High Prairie United Methodist Church. She also enjoyed UMW.

She loved to quilt and embroidery. She made a beautiful quilt for each grandchild for their high school graduation.

Virginia is survived by a daughter, Shirley Warren, Belleville, Ill.; two sons, Jim Stone, Iola, and Bob Stone, Fairview, Texas; 12 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; a brother, Lee Bradford, Altoona; and two sisters, Bonnie Ladd, Humboldt, and Bernice Johnson, Chanute.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Carl, and a sister Lois Erickson.

Funeral will be 10:30 a.m. Friday, Dec. 9 at the High Prairie Methodist Church rural Altoona. Burial will follow in High Prairie Cemetery.

The family will receive friends on Thursday from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. at the Penwell-Gabel Gibson Chapel in Chanute.

Memorials in her name may be made to the High Prairie Methodist Church and may be left with the funeral home.
