Son of Burkett Barton Chamberlain (1864-1942) and Mollie Kincheloe (1872-1948), Charles K. Chamberlain came from a family of teachers. He himself worked as a high school teacher and principal for a number of years in Nacogdoches, TX, before joining the history department at Stephen F. Austin College in 1946, later becoming department chairman. He was one of the founders of the East Texas Historical Assn., which he directed, and served as editor of the East Texas Historical Journal for some time before retiring in 1971. He got a B.A. from West Texas State College and received both his M.A. and Ph.D. degrees from U. T., Austin. He was the husband of Ruth Elizabeth Britt (1894-1997) and the father of Ken Burkett Chamberlain (1934-1968). C. K. Chamberlain died from injuries sustained in an automobile accident.
