19 December 1944 - 350+ aircraft takeoff from England on tactical raids to slow the the German offensive in the Ardennes. Almost every group had to land in southern England, away from their main bases, because of bad weather. The 303rd didn't return to Molesworth until 27 December.

One B-24 of the 93rd Bomb Group "Beavers Baby" crashed on take-off.

The memorial is to members of the crew of B24, Liberator, #42-50597 "Beaver's Baby" of the 93rd BG, 2ADA, 8th USAAF who died 19th December 1944.
Their plane crashed here in thick fog during take-off in an attempt to deliver air support to ground forces in Belgium during the Battle of the Bulge.
