World War II Victoria Cross Medal Recipient. He served as a served as a Captain in The 1st Battalion of The Northumberland Fusiliers. During an attack on El Duda Ridge near Tobruk, Libya, November 25, 1941, Allied troops were being beaten off by heavy fire from German anti-tank guns. Captain Jackman while directing his unit forward, he was wounded mortally and still managed to put the enemy out of action before he died. For this action, he was posthumously awarded the Victoria Cross Medal.
