IRETON — Roland Schreiner, 82, of rural Ireton, died Wednes-day, Dec. 28, 2005, at the Hillcrest Health Care Center in Hawarden.
Roland B. Schreiner was born July 5, 1923 near Remsen, the son of John P. and Katherine (Ruba) Schreiner. He was raised on a farm east of Remsen and attended country schools and St. Mary's Catholic School in Remsen. On Jan. 25, 1955, he married Eleanor Kotalik of Tabor, S.D., with the ceromony taking place in Yankton, S.D.
They farmed near Oyens for a few years and then farmed near Maurice where they farmed for 20 years. They moved to a farm near Ireton in March 1980. Roland continued to farm for a few years before beginning to work at Vogel Paint in Orange City, where he worked for 10 years before retiring.
Roland took pride in raising his livestock, farming and butchering his own beef, hogs, and chickens. His family was his great love and all of his grandchildren were his pride and joy. He and Eleanor shared almost 51 years together.
Survivors include his wife, Eleanor; three daughters and their husbands, Bernice and Said Ben Saida of Orange City, Maxine and Vernon Barents of Ireton and Irene and Cliff Puhl of Chatsworth; one son, Ivan and his wife, LeAnna of Ireton; nine grandchildren; two step grandchildren; one stepgreat-grandchild; a brother, Martin and his wife, Marie of Maurice; a sister, Elizabeth Kotalik of South Sioux City, Neb.; and a sister-in-law, Laura Schreiner of Le Mars.
He was preceded in death by his parents; an infant son; a sister, Mary Eickholt; a brother, John and three nephews.
Mass of Resurrection will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Hawarden with the Rev. LeRoy Seuntjens officiating. Burial will follow in the Grace Hill Cemetery at Hawarden. Visitation will be from noon to 4 p.m. today (Friday) at the Porter Funeral Horne in Hawarden. A prayer service will be at 7 p.m. Friday at St. Mary's Catholic Church.
