Arnold Rueben Anderson

Arnold Rueben Anderson, 84, of Longview, died July 20, 2003 at a local nursing home.

He was born September 15, 1918 in LeRoy, MN to Martin and Esther Petronela (Isaacson) Anderson and attended Minnesota schools. He moved to Longview in 1950 from Strandquist, MN. He also lived in Eureka, California from 1967 to 1979 before returning to Longview.

Mr. Anderson served in the Army from 1941 to 1945 in the Asian-Pacific theater and Guadalcanal. He received the Good Conduct Medal, Asian-Pacific Theater Medal, Bronze Star and the Distinguished Unit Badge. He worked at a grain elevator in Strandquist and at Longview Fibre before retiring from Crown Simpson in Eureka.

He was a member of Emmanuel Lutheran Church in Longview. He enjoyed home life and trips to Reno, Nevada and Minnesota to visit relatives. He loved baseball and was an avid Mariners fan. He had a talent for numbers and record-keeping and could calculate taxes in his head. He loved clocks, gadgets and studying the weather.

He married Margaret Evelyn Carter in Piedmont, Alabama in May, 1944. They had three children together. She preceded him in death in 1949. In February, 1967, he married P. M. Hetland in Eureka. She survives him at home.

Also surviving are a son, two daughters, a stepson, two stepdaughters, a brother, 12 grandchildren; 18 great grandchildren; and two special nephews.

In addition to his first wife, Mr. Anderson was preceded in death by three brothers, Earl Anderson, Leonard Anderson and Warren Anderson; a grandson, Kevin Anderson; and a stepdaughter, Nancy Mellis.

A memorial service will be held at 3 p.m. Friday at Steele Chapel with pastor Gary Deskins officiating. A reception will be held after the service at the chapel. Private inurnment will take place at the Longview Memorial park.

Arnold Anderson was a diabetic.
