Leon Houchin, 85, of Indianapolis, formerly of Franklin, passed away Monday, December 5, 2011.

He was born December 17, 1925 in Brownsville, KY the son of the late Theodore Houchin and Anna (Lindsey) Houchin. He also was preceded in death by a sister Yvonne Petro; and a brother Rodney Houchin.

Leon was a U.S. Navy veteran.

He was a member of the Martinsville Masonic Lodge 74 F&AM, the Martinsville Elks Lodge 1349, Martinsville American Legion Post 230, the Martinsville Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 125, the Indianapolis Murat Shrine, the Scottish Rite and the Jester's Club. He also was a Kentucky Colonel.

Leon was a retired welding engineer with AeroFab.

He is survived by his loving wife Sue E. (Hazlett) Houchin; his father-in-law Joe Hazlett; his children Theressa Rynard, Leona Jamison, Desi (Mac) Dunn, Pam (Peter) Groote and James (Teresa) Houchin; his siblings, Delores Wray, Doris Raley, Dorothy Elmore, Judy Coffey and Ted and Paul Houchin; 10 grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.

A funeral service will be conducted at 1 p.m. Friday at Forest Lawn Memory Gardens & Funeral Home, 1977 S. State Road 135, Greenwood.

Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Thursday and from noon until service time Friday at the funeral home. Entombment will be at Forest Lawn Memory Gardens.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Transportation Fund c/o The Indianapolis Shrine, in care of the funeral home.
