Lindsay W. Stewart, 85, of Madison, died Wednesday, Feb. 18, 2009, at The Waters of Clifty Falls.

He was born June 28, 1923, in Carroll County, Ky ., the son of Herman and Hallie Eades Stewart. He was raised in Lamb and was a graduate of Central High School. He was an Army Air Corps veteran of World War II. He moved to Jefferson County in 1962 and had lived for many years on State Road 256. He was a member of Hopewell United Methodist Church in Carroll County, Ky . He worked in the auto body industry for over 42 years and had worked at Standerford Ford, Croxton Motors and Craig Buick, Pontiac, GMC & Toyota in Madison. He enjoyed gardening, especially the flowers he raised with his wife, gospel music and playing the guitar. He was involved in prison ministry, jail ministry and nursing home ministry.

He is survived by four sons, Matthew T. Stewart of Madison, Michael Stewart of Lexington, David B. Stewart of Hanover and James T. Stewart of Carrollton, Ky.; four grandchildren; two step grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and several nieces, nephews and other relatives.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Evelyn M. Garrett Stewart, whom he married Oct. 14, 1949, and who died April 16, 1991; one daughter, Nancy Jo Stewart, who died in 1962; his parents; and three sisters, Kathryn Beverly, Velma Jo Gookins and Bessie Keller.

The funeral will be at 3 p.m. Sunday at Morgan & Nay Funeral Centre.

Burial will be at 10 a.m. Monday in the I.O.O.F. Cemetery in Carrollton, Ky. Military honors will be conducted graveside by Jefferson Post 9 of the American Legion.

Friends may call at the funeral home Saturday from 4 to 8 p.m. and Sunday from 1:30 p.m. until the service.

Expressions of sympathy may take the form of donations to Samaritan's Purse or the Kentucky United Methodist Children's Home. Contribution cards are available at the funeral home.
