Samuel enlisted for Civil War army service, August 21, 1862, as a private, in Company I, 103rd Regiment, Ohio Volunteer Infantry, at Montville Twp., Medina County Ohio for a term of 3 years. Occupation: farmer. He was mustered out with Company I, June 12, 1865, at Raleigh, NC at the end of hostilities.

A son, Marvin Bristol Rosenberry(Feb. 12, 1868-1958), was Chief Justice of the Supreme Court of Wisconsin.
