Obituary, Chadwick Funeral Service (New London, NH), Tue, 6 Dec 2011:

Carol B. Morrison, 87, of Elkins and Hanover NH, died Dec 1, 2011 in Hanover NH. Her family was with her.

Carol "Cay" grew up in Nashua NH, the daughter of Ethel Berner and Charles Babbitt. She earned her BA at McGill University and teaching degrees at Simmons College and Lesley University, and taught special ed in the Newton MA schools. Cay was very active with the Newton Conservators, and leaves a legacy of open space preservation.

Carol married Herbert S. Morrison, MD in 1944. They lived in Newton MA for over 40 years, where Dr. Morrison practiced family medicine and they brought up their children. Later the couple retired to New London, New Hampshire. Dr. Morrison died in 1996.

Carol was an enthusiastic gardener, bird watcher, and lecture-goer. She enjoyed traveling with Elderhostel, and visited Sicily, China, and Romania among other places. Her knowledge and love of the beauty of NH mountains--most of which she had climbed-- was legendary among her family and friends. Her UU congregations wherever she lived were vital to her.

Carol is survived by her daughters Linda, of Newton MA and Martha, of Acton, MA, and her son Charles and his wife Ann Chamberlin of Chapel Hill, NC, and by her grandchildren Constance and Joshua. She also leaves two nieces and two nephews. Her sister Jean predeceased her.

A memorial gathering is being planned for April in New London. Remembrances to Planned Parenthood, your Unitarian Universalist congregation, or any land conservancy group would be appreciated.
